. I’ve always lived here. When I was an art student

Brisbane
I loved the French artist Utrillo’s paintings of
Paris street
scenes. Well, this is my
Paris
.
Brisbane
is full of wonderful colours, intense shadows, amazing
roofs, those alien power poles, and always the trees – mauve jacaranda,
red Poinciana, yellow wattle, purple bougainvillaea and sweet frangipani.

provides all the ingredients essential for a painter
of cities – old houses with their human histories sit shoulder to
shoulder with modern buildings. My eye catches glimpses of city backdrop,
eccentric people and, of course, the hills beyond. ……………” |
