Challenges for a custom framer
This year has seen a varied range of the unusual for us to frame. At the moment, we have a Roy and HG toilet roll from the Athens Olympics; we've had and Indian umbilical cord holder, wine bottles and a ….
Jewish synagogue plate
Returning from an overseas trip, a customer was excited to have framed one of only two special plates manufactured for a special function. The plate was decorated with many symbols and it was to be displayed in such a way that not only was it framed and protected, but it also had lights within the unit to highlight the plate.
We chose to anchor the plate in a structure covered with a suede matt-board, construct a dressed timber box behind the chosen moulding and then in a back section of the box to incorporate a series of four lights, one in each corner.
The end result was a really unique unit, and a very happy customer.
Maori dolls
As the image shows a set of Maori dolls was placed inside an acrylic case (which we had manufactured specially for the job) with a very simple frame around the base. The dolls can be removed from the unit as all parts of the unit remain loose fitting.
Picture hanging
How many framed units have you hanging from one anchor point? We have a constant stream of people bringing units in for repair after they have fallen from their hanging spot and more often than not they have been hung from just one point
You need to check NOW and ensure that wherever possible reasonable sized framed units are hung from two points (come in about 20% from either end of the unit to establish the points for the hooks). Not only is the weight on each anchor point halved, it also provides a better means of balance for the unit itself.
Christmas/New Year closure
Frame Craft will be closing on Friday 24 December, 2004 and reopening on Monday 17 January, 2005. We look forward to being of service to yourself, your family and your friends in the New Year when once again our services will be available for the many framing items that warrant the services of experienced custom framers
